3 Ways to Give Your Hair More Texture

Written by Advice Team on September 15, 2016

No matter which style you opt for or the length of your hair, adding a little texture to give it that extra oomph isn’t difficult and can make a huge difference. Style icons such as Alexa Chung and professional stylists like Nikki Lee, prove why we want to own that choppy hair style. Below is a simple guide to three, super easy ways you can give your hair more texture, without the need to visit the salon.

Where there’s a will, there’s a way, so do not be defeated if you have tried and ‘failed’ to create texture before. It is so simple to do, so long as you have the right hair styling products available and are aware of the simple techniques to create the look.

Volume & texture all in one

Use some form of salt or thickening spray to lock your style in place, but to also lift your hair to give it extra volume. The TIGI Bed Head Superstar Diva Gift Set is a great choice with two hair styling products that will do all the work for you. The Day Thickening Spray will help to fix your style in place, add texture and - as the bottle suggests - make your hair appear thicker. Incorporate the Superstar Blowdry Lotion into your hair care regime first to build body and give you an extra boost of volume.

Don’t curl the ends

We’ve all tried adding texture by curling our hair, but why does it never turn out like the pictures we see on Pinterest and in glossy magazines? From our own experience we have found out that it is best to skip the ends. Simply curl the middle sections of your hair - avoiding the roots and the bottom ends - then ruffle your fingers through once done, and finish off with the TIGI dry thickening spray we recommended above. Another quick tip when curling your hair; curl in different directions to create a more casual look that doesn’t look so structured. When working with heat on the hair, we also have our useful tips to protect your hair from heat damage. See below for some of our best-selling curlers:

Use Dry Shampoo

Even if your hair isn’t in need of a wash, you can still utilise this staple hair product. To get the textured look, spray dry shampoo throughout your hair, holding the bottle around 20-30cm away from your hair. Then wind strands around your fingers like you do when you play with your hair, and scrunch it up towards the roots to work the product in and add that little bit of texture.
